Apparently, OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) project’s G1G1 (Give One Get One) programme will be seeing the light of the day again, via Amazon. Yes, Amazon, the internet retailer will be now offering the OLPC’s XO laptop, a low-cost laptop for educational purposes.

The G1G1 programme, when initially launched last year did not do well. This programme offered XO laptops to North American donors who donated $399. $399 bought two units of the laptop of which one was given to the donors and the second to a student in the developing country. The project had failed because of improper implementation of the plan, delay in production and distribution.

Now, Nicholas Negroponte, founder and chairman of the OLPC programme has officially confirmed the G1G1 programme’s tie-up with Amazon. However, further details have not been announced officially.

Apparently, the Amazon deal seems to have taken place to avoid the mistakes committed earlier and to ensure a proper delivery system. The OLPC laptops will be powered by the Windows XP OS and will be supposedly made available in the same scheme of $399. However, there are no official announcements on the pricing front.
