MSN teams up with SOS to broadcast Live Earth Concerts

An announcement was made at the California Science Center regarding the “Live Earth” concerts that will be held in all the seven continents of the world. According to the announcement, more than two billion people will now be able to watch Kevin Wall, Al Gore, Pharell Williams, and Cameron Diaz live on MSN as part of the Live Earth concerts that are to held in association withy Save or Selves (SOS) The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis.

The SIS campaign is designed to trigger a global movement to combat the world’s climate crisis, and will have reach people in all coreners of the globe through television, film, radio, Internet, and of course Live Earth, a 24-hour concert to be held on July 7, 2007 in the seven continents of the world. This effort is hoped to bring together over 100 of the world’s top musical acts. Live Erath by itself, will probably have an audience of more than 2 billion people through concert attendance as well as broadcasts.

According to Satya Raghavan, Head of Consumer Marketing, Windows Live and MSN India, “We have been encouraged by the overwhelming response of our users each time we had a concert in the past - live on MSN. Each time we have seen the number of people watching the live telecast, growing double. Our users have given feedback of being very happy about ‘A’ grade artists telecast live on our site. Not only music lovers but also casual Internet users have logged in to watch the concerts. We have a community of regular visitors.”

The Live Earth audience, together with the proceeds from the concerts will create the foundation for a new, multi-year global effort to combat climate crisis.

Commenting on the event, Kevin Wall, who won an Emmy as Worldwide Executive Producer of Live 8, said “Our climate crisis is the paramount challenge facing humanity. SOS is more than a global distress call. SOS will give the world the tools we need to answer that call with meaningful action. The most important part of SOS is how individuals, corporations, and governments respond.”

According to Wall, 25 out of the 100 top musical acts have already agreed to be a part of this scene, and will be performing at Live Earth. Besides, SOS has also invited celebrities, CEOs, athletes, academics and government leaders to get their constituencies involved.

Live Earth is being produced by Control Room, of which Kevin Wall is the CEO. Control Room has produced and distributed more than 60 concerts since its founding a year and a half ago, featuring Beyonc , Madonna, Green Day, Dave Matthews Band, Keith Urban, James Blunt, Snoop Dogg, the Rolling Stones, among others. Its multi-partner network provides a global reach for live offerings through broadband, television, digital movie theatres, and mobile phones throughout the US and the world.

Wall also announced that Live Earth concerts will take place in Brazil, Shanghai, Japan, Johannesburg, London, Sydney, and Eastern United States.
