Indian IT Firms situated in Bangalore on High Alert
The Indian city of Bangalore, which is appropriately touted as ‘India’s infotech capital’ has received security alerts and has been asked to remain extremely vigilant, reported Rediff.com. All IT firms in the city remain on high alert following the news of the local angle to the UK terror plot.
For a fact, any harm or attack to the Indian IT sector will directly have an adverse effect on the Indian economy. And that’s exactly what the Bangalore police too maintain, and thus the IT sector would be the main target of the attackers.
Speaking on this matter, M N Vidyashankar, Karnataka’s secretary, IT, biotech and science and technology stated that it is very essential that more cyber crime police stations are instated in the state, i.e., in Karnataka, in order to successfully deal with the rising terrorism spreading through the web. Ironically, currently Karnataka has merely one cyber crime cell, and it has solved only 13 cases till date.
Further more, Vidyashankar touched on the topic of increasing surveillance in cyber cafes across the state. He said cyber cafes will be asked to keep registers and told to permit people to use them only after proper ID is established.
Another major loop hole in the security is the fact that at present no matter where a particular cyber crime takes place in the state of Karnataka, complaints and cases can only be registered at Bangalore’s cyber crimes cell. This is one more point that the Bangalore IT sector plans to reconsider, making it possible for any cyber crime case to be registered at all police stations in the state, in the future.
