Robert Love Robert Love, Linux’s key programmer and Chief Architect of Novell’s Linux Desktop initiatives, through his blog announced that he is leaving the software company and was shifting his base to Google. At his new job, Love will be a part of the internet giant’s Open Source Program Office, which handles several projects such as the Summer of Code and Google APIs, to name a few.

Love’s resignation from Novell follows Jeremy Allison’s adieu to the company, who also went the Google way after leaving Big Red. However the reasons for the resignation differ. Love maintained that he was not leaving due to Novell’s recent patent covenant with Microsoft; instead he felt that it was high time to move on after a reasonably long tenure of three and a half years.

In the epilogue that Love has written on his blog, he finally writes “Leaving is never easy. But here and now the timing is right and so, after three and a half years, here’s to what’s next.”

26 year old Love is best known for his contributions to the Linux kernel, with work on the preemptive kernel, process scheduler, kernel event layer, virtual memory subsystem, and inotify. Love is also active in the GNOME community, working on NetworkManager, GNOME Volume Manager, Project Utopia and Beagle.
