Bangladesh flag, Intel logo and Chief Barrett On Tuesday, US-based CPU-maker Intel penned a deal with Bangladesh’s IT consultancy Grameen Solutions to offer computers and help with information technology education in rural areas, maintained an Intel official.

This new agreement between Intel and Grameen Solutions is to essentially give assistance to ICT-related education under its World Ahead Program (WAP).

The agreement was signed by Barrett and Muhammad Yunus, the Grameen Solutions chairman and Nobel Peace Prize winner, in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital.

Speaking at a press conference in Bangladesh, Intel’s chief, Craig Barrett stated that under the new agreement, over the next three years, Intel will be offering 1,000 computers to schools and coach teachers to help spread information technology in the country. This is the techno evangelist’s first visit to Bangladesh.

In addition, this pact will also enable the two companies to cohesively promote and support digital projects across the South Asian nation, enhance education, connectivity, and access to technology, web content and software applications.

But all the same, currently Intel does not intend putting its money in Bangladesh’s slowly emerging information, communication and technologies sector, Barrett told a news conference in the capital, Dhaka.

Instead of that Intel will be joining hands wit software firms across Bangladesh to develop localized Internet content and software, continued Barrett.

Furthermore, Intel and Grameen also plan to team-up for working on WiMAX technology, which is believed to be a cost effective and efficient system to deliver broadband Internet access to rural areas.
