17-year-old Girl chops off her tongue to pacify Goddess

A 17-year-old girl residing in the Indian state of Orissa, cut off her tongue in order pacify a Hindu goddess, police said on Monday.
The girl named Sukanti Naik of Dandamukundapur village in Puri district began praying on Saturday night at a temple. According to a police official, Naik chopped her tongue after spending a night at the temple.
Devotees found her groaning in pain on the temple floor and took her to a hospital. A case has been filed against the girl.
