Dell logo On Wednesday, number one PC maker, Dell confirmed that it has acquired high-performance computer company Alienware. Since around a week the rumours of the purchase have been going around, and Dell finally confirmed them on Wednesday, adding that the move would ascertain and strengthen its position among computer fanatics.

Alienware logo Dell chairman Michael Dell said Alienware’s target audience and computer lineup complements Dell’s more traditional computers. “In addition to offering high-quality, high-performance products, Alienware has tremendous brand appeal with consumers and creative business professionals,” he said.

Though the Miami, Florida-based company will be wholly-owned subordinate of Dell, yet it will be operating independently. The two companies said that the deal is targeted towards enhancing the company’s supply chain.

Alienware CEO Nelson Gonzalez said, “We believe that Alienware will realise significant advantages from Dell’s world-class supply chain and operational efficiencies.” He added, “They will allow us to continue to satisfy our core customers with the most innovative and highest-performing PCs, and ultimately extend the reach and appeal of the Alienware brand.”

Financial terms of the acquisition have yet not been revealed. The deal is expected to close within a few months, say Alienware representatives. According to Gonzalez, a Dell purchase was considered the best option after it looked at offering stock in the company through an initial public offering.

Dell’s strength on one hand and Alienware’s biggest weakness on the other was that of a remarkable supply chain. The move of the purchase has solved one of the company’s biggest concerns, said company representatives.
