'Dead man' walking sends village into panic A reputed India daily reported the spine chilling case of an Indian man who was believed to be dead who caused panic on returning, making villagers think that he had come back as a ghost.

When Raju Raghuvanshi returned from jail earlier this month to Katra village in MP’s Mandla district, making children scream “Ghost! Ghost!” and compelling villagers to lock their doors.

The paper reported that Raghuvanshi’s brothers, had gone ahead and shaved their heads to mourn his death in line with Hindu tradition, and Raghuvanshi’s shocking appearance made them fled away.

Villagers and family members have disowned him, forcing the middle-aged Raghuvanshi to file a complaint with local police. The village council has demanded that he needs to prove that he is not a ghost, but the paper did not emphasise as to what kind of proof the elders wanted. Raghuvanshi exclaimed, “I don’t know why they are doing this to me. The panchayat wants proof that I am alive.”

Raghuvanshi’s troubles arose after he was jailed last year. In prison, he was admitted to hospital with a stomach ailment from which he recovered, but a distant relative informed his family about his death.
