Google Launches Centers in Brazil, Mexico, News In Portugese Available Too Now
Google Inc has started two new operation centers in Sao Paulo, Brazil and in Mexico City, Mexico. An announcement stating a launch of two different editions of Google News, one for Brazil and the other for Portugal were made by Google aswell.
Sukhvinder Singh Cassidy, vice president, Asia Pacific and Latin America Operations, Google Inc. said, “The online environment in Latin America is changing rapidly with the infrastructure for high-speed Internet access expanding and with it e-commerce. He added, Google’s Latin America teams will partner closely with businesses, advertisers and agencies throughout the region to enable them to capitalize on the significant opportunities this brings.
Google has named Gonzalo Alonso, formerly Director of Sales at T1MSN, as the head of the Mexican operations. The former general manager for HBO Brazil, Alexandre Hohagen, will lead the Brazilian end.
As general managers for Google in their markets, Alonso and Hohagen will work with Google’s current Latin America clients and continue to grow Google’s client base in the region. Google’s Latin American advertisers already represent a wide variety of companies including Mercado Libre and Dell in Mexico, and Wal-Mart in Brazil.
Google said that the office in Sao Paulo, Brazil follows the attainment of Brazil’s Akwan Information Technologies Inc. in July of this year. Akwan has become Google’s R&D center in Brazil.
Google has also unveiled Google News for Brazil and Portugal. Google News covers stories from more than 200 news sources in Portuguese worldwide, and automatically arranges them to present the most relevant news first. These Google News Portuguese editions are the first launches by the company’s Brazilian engineering team in Belo Horizonte.
