EA’s The Sims celebrates its ten year anniversary

The Sims

The Sims franchise has been around since early 2000 and has gathered quite an incredible fan following ever since. The acclaimed franchise has seen three core games namely The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 unveiling with loads of expansion, stuff packs and additional game content to keep players constantly enticed. Now EA Play brings out the streamers and balloons as The Sims turns ten.

The Sims was last in the news for releasing its latest game entitled Sims 3 World Adventures. This famous franchise has made quite an impact on the lives of gamers situated all over the globe as it sold more than 125 million units worldwide. It has gathered over $2.5 billion in revenue which puts them on a par with hit movies like The Matrix Trilogy, Avatar and Titanic.

Rod Humble, Head of the EA Play label said, “The success of The Sims is something gamers and the gaming business as a whole can be proud of. With its charming and quirky style, lovely emergent game mechanics and user created creativity that delights every day, The Sims is a game that can be enjoyed by everybody and reflects what you put into it. The future of The Sims is going to be a lot of fun; it is rare for an entertainment franchise to be gaining momentum a decade after release, so this is a particularly pleasant moment for everyone who has worked on the games.”

Logan Decker, Editor-in-Chief of PC Gamer magazine explained, “No other game in the history of electronic entertainment has ever had the broad, nearly universal appeal of The Sims franchise. Everybody plays it: hardcore gamers, young women, celebrities, conservatives, professors, soldiers, grandmothers, even people who say they don’t like computer games. And the game—or, rather, the experience—has thrived throughout ten years of sequels and countless expansion packs because EA has kept the environment fresh and infinitely customizable while never getting in the way of the game’s primary focus—the player’s imagination and the natural inclination of all human beings to create meaningful stories.”

The Sims caters to gamers situated in 60 countries as it is also available in 22 languages. The Sims 3 alone sold over 4.5 million units worldwide. Gamers can create, download and share player content online which amounts to almost 110 million downloads for Sims 3 while the community site gets up to six million unique visitors per month. Many well-known faces have been associated with The Sims franchise over the decade. These include the likes of Nelly Furtado, Natasha Bedingfield, The Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry.
