Emotiv Neurotechnology Development Platform launched

Emotiv Systems Logo Emotiv Systems, a pioneer in brain computer interface technology has announced that it is opening up its Application Programming Interface (API) and providing a number of development tools that will enable consumers to experience a totally new form of human-machine interface.

In case you are unaware, Emotiv’s technology is the only brain-computer interface solution that is able to detect and process both human conscious thoughts as well as non-conscious emotions. Further, this technology is also able to represent brain activity patterns that are unique to a particular individual.

Emotiv has just released two software developments kits to support its Emotiv EPOC neuroheadset. Known as Emotiv SDKLite, it is a free downloadable tool that developers can take advantage of and integrate seamlessly with all the functionalities and features of the Emotiv EPOC. It also includes EmoComposer, which is a hardware emulator that allows developers to test their applications with actually having access to the neuroheadset.

Further, Emotiv has announced the availability of its full SDK. Since it was first announced it March 2007, this SDK has been constantly and significantly upgraded. The full kit now includes 2 beta-version neuroheadsets, software toolkit that exposes the APIs, full access to detection libraries and a suite of development tools for effective creation and integration of applications with content.

According to Nam Do, CEO of Emotiv Systems, “We’ve seen tremendous demand from the development community and have been impressed by the variety of potential applications of our neurotechnology.”

By providing widespread access to these development tools, we aim to make the introduction of brain computer interface technology into games and other applications seamless and cost-effective and ensure that a wide variety of content will be available when the headset is on the shelves,” added Nam Do.

The Emotive SDK and SDKLite are now available to developers of games as well as other applications.
