Much-loved FPS video game BioShock has been nominated for an incredible 12 Interactive Achievement Awards. And of course other impressive FPS titles such as Valve’s Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, EA and Harmonix’s Rock Band and Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy are not far behind in nomination numbers, as they battle it out for the “Overall game of the Year” title.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’ (AIAS) 11th annual Interactive Achievement Awards will be held along with the DICE (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit 2008 on February 7 at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas. The event will be hosted by American actor and stand-up comedian Jay Mohr.

BioShock’s developers 2K Boston and 2K Australia stand a chance to win in the following categories - Overall Game of the Year, Console Game of the Year, Computer Game of the Year and Outstanding Innovation in gaming.

The awards are peer-based, as industry stalwarts and members of the videogame software business zero on the nominations.

Here’s the complete list of finalists for the forthcoming 11th annual Interactive Achievement Awards.
