Skype for PSP announced by Sony
A few days back we had reported about Sony revealing that it is in the works of offering the popular Skype voice chat integration for the PSP. The electronics company was slated to make this path-breaking announcement at the ongoing CES event, and that’s exactly what it has done.
PSP users can now make some great use of the handheld game console’s VoIP functionality, thanks to the official incorporation of a custom version of the online calling service Skype.
Following the next scheduled update, owners will be able to download a totally functional version of Skype for the PSP. Furthermore, apart from making phone calls to current Skype users, PSP users can manage their contacts list, check who’s online and who’s offline, make and calls to/from actual telephone numbers, and have complete access to Skype account settings
It has not yet been confirmed as to when exactly would the PSP be able to support Skypem what’s not known is that the firmware update is scheduled to be issued by Jan-end. A Skype icon will be added to the “Network” category of the PSP’s Xross Media Bar. A Skype account can be created directly from the PSP. A small download fee will be levied, thus a Memory Stick will be required to access the program. To use the service, owners will also need a headset or the USB mic which is sold at present in Japan.
