According to Sony’s official PlayStation Blog, Rockstar Games of Bully and GTA fame will now be developing a franchise exclusive to Sony’s PS3 console.

In fact, this announcement was made on the blog itself by Michael Shorrock, director if 3rd Part Relations at SCEA.

Shorrock said, “We are announcing that a new franchise from Rockstar Games will be exclusive to PS3. As part of our long standing relationship with Rockstar, and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, we’ve agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios.”

As of now, no solid details on the PS3-exclusive franchise have been revealed as Sony has an agreement with Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive Software which does not allow the company to disclose anything more about the deal or title for that matter.

However, Shorrock did mention that Rockstar is really keen on developing a game exclusively for the PlayStation 3 console that will harness the power of CELL and of course Blu-ray disc.

Shorrock also mentioned in his blog post that this deal is definitely a win-win situation for both Sony and Rockstar Games.

In the recent past, Sony lost some of the upcoming PS3 exclusive games such as Ubisoft’s Haze, which is now a timed exclusive, meaning that it will come out a week before the Xbox 360 and PC versions. Also lost along the way were awesome games like Assassin’s Creed, Fatal Inertia and Devil May Cry 4, which apparently has Ken Kutaragi to be blamed for. However, Sony did manage to get a more consistent timed-exclusive game namely Unreal Tournament which ix expected to hit the shelves long before the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

Now, that we have news of Rockstar’s PS3 exclusive video game, you can be sure that it will be one hell of a great game. Also, Sony will be compensated through the release of this game which will be made exclusively for its next-generation console this time.
