Nintendo has officially announced a game-creation service called WiiWare. Here, developers will be able to create new downloadable video game content for sale by Nintendo via its Wii Shop Channel.

As it is, Wii owners must be used to the constant flow of “retro” games that can be downloaded each week on the Visrtual Console. Now, with the addition of original game downloads, through WiiWare, Wii gamers can indeed rejoice.

WiiWare is scheduled to launch in early 2008. According to Nintendo, this service will pave the way for smaller but more creative games to make their way to the public at much lower prices as well. Besides, the inventory risk to developers will totally be eliminated.

“WiiWare brings new levels of creativity and value to the ever-growing population of Wii owners,” he added.

WiiWare will most certainly be a great platform for developers, whether small or big, to show their stuff out there. Besides, this approach when combined with the unique motion controls of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, is sure to give birth to a basket of new ideas.

WiiWare when launched will be available via the Wii Shop Channel, whjere users will have to shell out points to download content.

WiiWare is similar in concept to PS3’s PlayStation Network and Xbox 360’s Xbox LIVE Arcade services, which also offer original games for download.
