The Sex Pistols Reunite

A while ago, it was reported that Activision’s much-awaited Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock would be getting around eleven songs from the gods of rock like Iron Maiden et al. Then came the news that Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello would feature in the game. Now, in an official release, Activision announced that the original punk rockers ‘The Sex Pistols’ returned to the studio to re-record their famous track ‘Anarchy in the UK’ as a master track for Guitar Hero III.

The Sex Pistols have already established themselves as the best punk band of the 19702. Hence, this band seems to be the perfect choice for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

For this recording session that Activision specially arranged for, the band’s original members John Lydon (vocals), guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook reunited with producer Chris Thomas. Together, they utilized the original analog sound desk (circa 1969) that was originally built for George Martin at Air Studios, London, England in order to maintain the classic sound of the band.

Aptly, thirty years ago to this fall, the song ‘Anarchy in the UK’ was first included on The Sex Pistols one and only studio album ‘Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols’ .

Also, the single ‘Anarchy in the UK” will be re-issued on October 1, 2007 along with three other of the band’s classic singles that will be released throughout October.

To celebrate this momentous period, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will also be sponsoring the historic Sex Pistols concert at The Brixton Academy in London slated to take place on November 8.

Steve Jones, guitarist of The Sex Pistols commented saying, ““It was great for Guitar Hero to, in a way, get us back in the studio. I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out but it actually turned out great and I think everyone held their own,” said Steve Jones. “I like it [Guitar Hero] because my friends’ kids like it. And I like what kids like.”

Tim Riley, Activision worldwide executive of music said, “Guitar Hero fans have been requesting more punk rock in the game since its first iteration. We are honored that The Sex Pistols went into the studio after 30 years, so that we could have a song from the most renowned punk band of all time in the game.”

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is being published by RedOctane and has been developed by Neversoft. The game will be available on October 28, 2007.

Kai Huang, president and co-founder of RedOctane commented, “We are proud to have joined forces with such a legendary and influential band as The Sex Pistols for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. We are very excited to partner with them on their 30th Anniversary and expose them to an entirely new generation of fans through the game.”
