Guess what’s heading to the Xbox 360 LIVE Arcade this week? Microsoft has announced that this week will see the release of two great games- Konami’s Super Contra and EA’s Wing Commander. What’s more; they will be totally modified and not the good old versions that you may have been hooked on to all this while.

Super Contra is a game that has been developed by Digital Eclipse and is being published by Konami. The modified game features upgraded graphics and sound. Not only that; Xbox 360 owners will be able to enjoy the original game play of this classic arcade game as well as the two player co-op game play.

Super Contra sees Lance and Bill once again taking up the fight against the alien menace, Red Falcon. Players will also be able to play in the co-op mode over the Xbox 360 console or even on Xbox LIVE. They can make use of the Xbox 360 headset to communicate as well.

Super Contra on XBLA will feature Xbox LIVE leaderboards which will see gamers high score statistics maintained for arcade (single player, high score, all time and weekly) and for Xbox LIVE Co-op (high score, all time and weekly). Plus, players can earn themselves goodies in the form of 200 gamer points or 12 achievements.

Super Contra on the Xbox LIVE Arcade will cost you less than 400 Microsoft Points.

The second game to hit XBLA this week is Electronic Arts’ Wing Commander Arena which has been developed by Gaia Industries.

EA’s Wing Commander Arena sees players creating a squad and taking on opponents with gravity bombs and torpedoes.

Wing Commander Arena for XBLA has been enhanced with the addition of new features in the form of a 16 player multiplayer combat action over XBLA.

The game also features four game play modes- single player, multi-team, multiplayer battle and duels one-on-one and multiplayer.

Plus, the enhanced Wing Commander Arena will include eight new ships including bombers, light and medium fighters as well as nine maps including team maps, free-for-all maps and dueling maps.

Wing Commander Arena will cost you 800 Microsoft Points, but you can win 12 achievements and 200 Gamerscore points by playing this game.

Both Wing Commander Arena and Super Contra will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade from this Wednesday (that’s tomorrow), July 25, 2007.
