Sony's PSP Slim & Lite

Within the first week of its launch in the UK, Sony’s PSP Slim & Lite has sold an astounding 17,000 units, read an article in GamesIndustry.biz. The sales mark a four-fold increase over the previous week.

Introduced on September 14th, the Slim and Lite PSP, available at £129.99, was indeed launched in a big way. From radio to online ad campaigns, Sony did it all to see that the sales of its new revamped handheld is breakthrough.

An SCEE spokes further added that Sony is now in the works of releasing new products such as Go! Explore and Go Messenger.

And as they say, “you have to lose some to gain some”, so did Sony. PSP suffered its worst ever sales period in the week before Slim & Lite’s hit stores, which Sony said was a direct result of retailers ‘thinning’ stock levels in preparation of receiving the new console.

The rumors of the new PSP started floating around in June and within three months the rumors transformed into reality. Supposedly, Sony has made all provisions in terms of promotions which will help Sony pus its handheld sales in the run up to Christmas.
