Teen Stabs Brother Over a Video Game Dispute
In what could be described as a shocking incident, thirteen year old Jahmir Ricks stabbed his sixteen year old brother, Antwan Ricks, with a steak knife over a video game dispute at their house in Lansdowne. According to AP, Antwan refused to turn over a video game controller to his younger brother which must have prompted Jahmir to fatally stab him.
However, the accused allegedly told police that he had stabbed his brother when they arrived at the home on Sunday. Antwan was pronounced dead when he reached the hospital. The police also recovered a curved and bloody knife was recovered from the home. Passersby who witnessed the event said that their mother was hysterical and Jahmir was crying and screaming and yelling when the police took him and put in car.
But Police Chief Daniel Kortan disagreed that it was the video game that instigated the younger sibling to attack his brother. He said, “I don’t believe the actual game itself was the cause of it. I don’t believe they were acting out in any way or mimicking anything in a video game. I believe it was actual use of the game and whose turn it was.”
The authorities also stated that the rules of the house were that the person who lost the game had to turn over their controller for somebody else to play. Now, Jahmir Ricks stands to be charged as an adult for first degree murder. Along with that charge, Ricks also faces charges of third-degree murder, assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of instruments of crime.
