A study has found out that the most popular online activity for entertainment purposes remains playing casual games on the Internet. It really is no wonder that people spend long hours of casual gameplay as these games tend to be real addictive.
But, it really did come as a surprise that this activity has been branded the King of Online Entertainment activities way ahead of other ‘more’ popular activities.
The report titled ‘Casual Gaming Market Update indicates that 34% of US adult Internet users play online games on a weekly basis, compared with 29% who watch short online videos and 19% who visit social networking sites.
James Kuai, a research analyst at Parks Associates said, “Despite the growing popularity of YouTube, MySpace and Facebook, gaming remains the king of online entertainment, driven largely by casual gaming activities.”
This research was carried out for Q2 2007. It’s actually not very surprising that casual gaming topped the list in the Online Entertainment arena. But, like we said earlier, you CAN get hooked onto these games. I know I was- when I couldn’t off my computer for hours hooked onto the clinking sound of precious stones clashing. Yes I was highly addicted to ‘Bejeweled’at one phase of my life!
