Today, Zapak Digital Entertainment Ltd., which is a Reliance ADA Group venture announced that they have launched the very first full-feature online ‘Multiplayer Chess’ game in India. With the launch of the new ‘Multiplayer Chess’ and ‘Multiplayer Speed Chess’ zapak games, you will now be able to play against your friend who may be located anywhere in the world, or even play a chess game, where the player has just ten seconds to make a move.

Present at the launch of Chess Grandmasters on, was Koneru Humpy, the reigning World Junior Champion, and Tania Sachdeva, the reigning Asian Junior Girls Champion, who unveiled the new games and also demonstrated the gameplay.

Koneru Humpy said, “There are many gifted youngsters when it comes to playing chess, but only few get the golden opportunity of getting coached by the best in the game, let alone get enough practice. As a result of the multiplayer Chess on, players will be able to play at various levels and with as many players as they want, which will also help them hone their strategic skills.”

Tania Sachdev said “Chess is a game which has been played in our country for centuries. I feel this move of will take Chess to a larger audience. I’ve played the game online a few times now and I feel that the game play is brilliant. Now, I can also play with my coach, no matter which part of the world I am in.”

The Chess Grandmasters championship commences from February 1, 2007. The winner of the championship will win a cash prize of Rs.1,00,000.

Rajesh Sawhney, President, Reliance Entertainment, who was present at the occasion, said, “Vishwanathan Anand had once said that Chess still hasn’t filtered down to the common man and does not attract big crowds. It was this thought that led to the origin of Multiplayer Chess on Today, Zapak is proud to felicitate Koneru Humpy and Tania Sachdev as Zapak’s Honorary Online Grandmasters. We also announce India’s first online Grandmaster Championship.”
