Sony PS3 Firmware Update 1.81 Just last month, Sony released its 1.80 PS3 Firmware Update. Now, a newer firmware update 1.81 has been released by the company, which addresses a number of issues in the Sony PlayStation 3 gaming console that users have reported along the way to Sony.

The PS3 Firmware Update 1.81 fixes the issue concerning the ‘RGB Full’ setting. For instance, this firmware update fixes the issue when the PS3 switches from RGB Full to Limited by itself.

So, when you connect your PS3 to your TV using an HDMI cable, and if the TV supports RGB Full range, the picture quality will indeed be improved when this option is set to Full.

We came to know of this announcement from Sony’s newly launched PlayStation Blog, which is very informative.

In the Blog post announcing the PS3 1.81 Firmware Upgrade, Eric Lempel, Director, PlayStation Network Operations also mentioned that the company has been working on evaluating and improving PS2 software compatibility issues.

The Sony Firmware Update 1.81 can be downloaded immediately from here, or via the System Update option on the PS3 XMB.
