Nintendo and GameSpy team up to use the latter’s multiplayer technology in Wii Game titles

Yesterday, GameSpy, which is a unit of Fox Interactive Media announced that it will lend its multiplayer technology to game publishers who are developing titles for the Nintendo Wii video game system. Since Nintendo and GameSpy are ongoing partners now, GameSpy has developed middleware technology that will include community features such as friend rosters, advanced matchmaking capabilities and comprehensive rankings data in many Wii game titles.
The first game to utilize GameSpy’s multiplayer technology will be Pokemon Battle Revolution. This game title for the Wii will be launched on June 25 and will feature multiplayer features.
“Nintendo has been an invaluable partner and we look forward to expanding our relationship with them in the future. Our goal is to extend our ground-breaking work on the Nintendo DS to provide Wii users with the social, community and multiplayer tools that we believe will expand the online gaming experience to the mass market,” said Jamie Berger, Senior Vice President of Consumer Products and Technology for IGN Entertainment.
