iTunes like Game Download Service Called ‘A World of My Own’ by Virign
Virgin’s chairman, Sir Richard Branson today announced World of My Own (AWOMO), a joint project between Virgin Games and Game Domain International.
World of My Own is an iTunes-like service for downloading PC games. The new games download service for PC is expected to begin in the latter part of 2007 and is currently in the initial testing stage.
“This is a really exciting development for us, as it gives us the opportunity to do for PC Games what iTunes has done for music,” said Sir Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin. “The GDI technology will revolutionize how the mass market will play games, and will give them more choice for less money.”
World of My Own game download service is touted to have fast download speeds which would allow gamers to download and play games within minutes. AWOMO service would also offer better security and improved ease of use for its customer.
Apparently many other major games publishers are expected to join World of My Own project, but nothing has been finalized as yet.
