WCG 2007 India Finals Winners announced; India defeats Pakistan in Counter-Strike Match

Yesterday, the Samsung-sponsored WCG India finals 2007 came to a close. The event that took place at World Trade Center in Mumbai swathe winning teams from top metro cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai compete against each other for that once-in-a-lifetime chance to represent their country at the WCG World Finals in Seattle.

The WCG 2007 India contestants played team as well as individual games like Counter Strike 1.6 (5 member team game), Warcraft III, FIFA Soccer 2007 Need for Speed, Age of Empires III and Project Gotham Racing.

Here is a list of 10 lucky winners who will soon be making their way to Seattle for the WCG World Finals:

  • Team “ATE” (5 Member Team) once again claimed the Counter Strike crown as their own
  • Warcraft III-Sagar Vaishnav
  • FIFA-Reuben Pereira
  • NFS Carbon- Arun Ravi Singh
  • Age of Empire-Chotu Vohra
  • Project Gotham Racing-Yash Mayekar
  • Present at the event was R Zutshi, Dy. Managing Director, Samsung India, “Gaming is emerging as a very strong entertainment platform across the world, especially amongst the youth and the World Cyber Games, with its Slogan of ‘Beyond the Game’ seeks to promote a healthy cyber culture.”

    As reported earlier, the much-awaited friendly India-Pakistan gaming match also took off on this very day, with both teams proudly representing their respective countries.

    The 6-member Pakistani Counterstroke team had flown down all the way from Lahore for this match.

    “This friendly match between India and Pakistan for ‘Counterstrike’, we expect, will further fuel the interest in gaming in both the countries,” added Mr. Zutshi.

    And here is what the captain of the Pakistan ‘Counterstrike team Syed Zain said, “We are very excited to be playing in India with the best ‘Counterstrike’ team. I think this match is not about winning or losing, but about truly enjoying the Game and playing it in a healthy spirit.”

    Present on this momentous day was ace ex-cricketer Kapil Dev, who was here to judge the event.

    India emerged the winner of the hyped India-Pakistani Counterstrike match with a grand score of 3-0. But all was good between the two teams as both of them enjoyed nothing but pure camaraderie.

    The WCG 2007 India winners will be heading to Seattle, Washington USA where the WCG World Finals will be held from October 3 to October 7 2007.
