Gears of War logo Epic’s Gear of War has undoubtedly been the best video game that I’ve ever played on the Xbox 360 platform. However, when my colleague and I finished the game, we were rather disappointed, as we were expecting a much longer game.

Now, you can look forward to a new Gears of War map pack that will feature four new battlegrounds. Epic Games’ Mark Rein said that gamers will however be required to pay for it.

“Epic thinks the way to maximize the return on Gears of War is to give maps away for free and Microsoft thinks the way to maximize the return on Gears of War is to sell the maps,” said Epic’s vice president.

Rein explained that expecting gamers to pay for map packs wasn’t the developer’s first choice strategy. Clearly, the makers of the game and the makers of the game’s platform do not agree on this point.

Finally, it has been agreed upon by the two big companies that the latest maps will be sold at a reasonable price, and after a few good months these very maps will be made free of cost. Apparently, Microsoft also did this with the hugely successful original Halo 2 map pack.

The said next map pack will feature four multiplayer maps, but there’s no info on the price or release date yet.
