Xbox 360 to get a Blu-ray Add-on

Rumors are doing the rounds on the Internet that Microsoft may be considering a Blu-ray add-on for its Xbox 360 game console.

Blu-ray, the high-definition format is already built in to Sony’s PlayStation 3. Blu-ray also happens to be one of Sony’s creations.

Community site Xbox Circle has reported that during a recent interview with ITMedia, Microsoft head, Peter Moore stated that the Xbox 360 could see an add-on Blu-ray drive launched for it.

Moore went on to say that if Blu-ray emerges the clear winner in the current DVD war, then we could well see such an add-on for the Xbox 360.

While HD-DVD is Microsoft’s preferred DVD format, Moore pointed out that as Xbox 360 uses an external DVD drive it allows them to adapt to whatever standard wins.

Moore also went on to say that Microsoft would never ship future iterations of their console, with a built-in drive; saying that such a move limits the gamer’s choices.
