PS3 Price Cut

Gamers will be happy to know that Sony has officially announced the much awaited 80GB PlayStation 3 model. The company also announced a $100 price cut in its 60GB PS3 model, a move that gamers all over the world have eagerly been awaiting.

In fact, in May 2007, Sony had announced an 80GB PS3 console exclusively for South Korea. Realizing that the rest of the world was missing out, the company has now gone on to introduce the 80GB console with a larger-than-life storage capacity.

The new 80GB PS3 features an expanded hard disk drive (HDD), providing ample storage space to hardcore online gamers as well as entertainment enthusiasts. Now that space has been taken care of, gamers will be able to download more games and entertainment content from the PlayStation Network.

What’s more, the all new 80GB PS3 model comes bundled with the hit racing game title which sold over a million copies- MotorStorm.

According to Jack Tretton, president and CEO of SCEA, “The introduction of the 80GB PS3, the new pricing for the current 60GB model, the availability of more than 100 new software titles this fiscal year and, finally, the expansion of services for PLAYSTATION Network, will provide even more options for users and will help bring new consumers into the PS3 fold.”

In case you were wondering; just like the 60GB PS3 model, the 80GB one too comes standard with Cell Broadband Engine, Blu-ray Disc player, built-in HDD, 1080p high-definition output, Wi-Fi connectivity and SIXAXIS wireless controller.

With the $100 price cut, Sony’s 60GB PlayStation 3 console is immediately available for a price of $499 in North America. The newly introduced 80GB PS3 console will be available in August 2007 for a price of $599.
