Halo 3 Sales Breaks Records by Garnering $300 Million in First Week

Halo 3's Master Chief 25th September, 2007, is probably one of the biggest days in the history of gaming. This was the day when “Halo 3” was launched worldwide and just within a few days of its release it’s on its way to make and break so many more records. The title was previewed amidst enormous pomp and plush around the world, including India. Mumbai and Delhi were hosts to two great Preview Parties, which saw the coming together gaming aficionados, select media, bloggers and many other Halo believers came under one roof to greet the Masterchief to India with immense enthusiasm.

Within little over a week’s time, Halo 3 has gathered a humungous $300 million in sales worldwide.

“India too has seen a tremendous response from the gaming community with record pre-orders of Halo 3. Gaming is more than just a hobby; it’s turning out to be a global phenomenon and Indians certainly don’t want to be left behind! The gaming community is only growing stronger by the day in India and that is very gratifying,” said Mohit Anand, Country Manager, Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division, India.

““Halo” is truly a cultural phenomenon and the launch of “Halo 3″ is an important milestone for Xbox 360 and for video games as a narrative art form,” said Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. Adding, “”Halo 3″ embodies our vision for the future of entertainment, where the world’s greatest creators deliver a new generation of interactive storytelling.”

On the first day itself, the game broke a number of industry records for market performance by having a $170 million first day sales. Another record has been set through the 1.7M pre-orders made at retailer shelves for the title.

In addition, more than 2.7 million gamers have played Halo 3 over Xbox Live in the first week, according to Microsoft. And of course, who can forget that Master Chief, a biologically enhanced soldier now stands in Madame Tussauds wax museum in Las Vegas.
