Zapak logo Zapak.com, India-based casual gaming portal, could perhaps be in the works of kick starting gaming portals in Europe and China, reported DNA publication recently.

A division of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), Zapak.com plans to put in $100 million in Zapak’s three verticals — gaming portals, gaming cafes and content creation — over the next 3-5 years’ time.

Speaking about the new venture, Rohit Sharma, the CEO of Zapak Digital Entertainment, told DNA Money that company is seeking to invest in content developers for gaming, from countries like US and Korea, and has a huge budget of $5 million to $10 million for it.

“We are launching a European site and a Chinese site and are looking to be a global brand very soon. We may also invest in some studios because software creation and ownership are key in gaming,” Sharma maintained.

At present companies Indian firms such as Saffronrage Solutions and Jump Games are sourcing content to Zapak, and a total of 60 percent of material comes from oversees.

According to Sharma, the biggest motivator of development in the gaming space was online gaming with China and Korea having changed the face of the market. He expects the Indian gaming story to follow a similar path.

Just a few days back, we reported about Zapak being in the works of rolling out about 250 Zapak cafés called ‘Gameplexes’ across India, in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi, Kolkatta and Chandigarh.

Some months ago, TechShout.com conducted an exclusive interview with Zapak CTO Sudipto Majumdar, where he spoke about gaming in India and the company’s future plans. Click here to head there!
