The Sopranos

Popular HBO mafia television drama Sopranos is soon going to be seen in a gaming avatar. THQ announced they would release an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 game that will be based on the hit HBO crime drama The Sopranos.

The adaptation from the movie The Godfather brought to us by Electronic Art seemed for a while a best choice for our consoles this fall. But that pretty much changed in May at the E3. That’s because THQ announced they would release an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 game that will be based on the hit HBO crime drama The Sopranos. The game will be possibly available at the end of the year.

However, THQ revealed that they told the developer of the Sopranos for the Xbox 360 Sopranos to drop the project. Seems THQ has some financial problems. “Amortization of 18 percent was up three points versus the prior year quarter. This is primarily due to our decision to discontinue development of the Sopranos for Xbox 360. There is no change to our plans to replace it, but we will release it on PS2 during the holiday season”, said Edward K. Zinser, chief financial officer of THQ.

The Sopranos game is being developed by ‘7 Studios,’ which is the same studio that made the game adaptation of the Fantastic 4 movie. They just-released Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow, another film tie-in.

The Sopranos game, which is now exclusive for Sony’s PlayStation 2 will release in late 2006.
