The first edition of Final Fantasy was launched in 1987, since then SquareEnix has sold over 65 million copies of the Final Fantasy series worldwide, pulling game players with its superior quality images and mystifying story lines.

“The vast, game-world map was designed with extreme care to details. This monumental work was created as if it were grand architecture,” Yoichi Wada, president of SquareEnix said.

To help support the latest edition, Sony Computer Entertainment has started selling PlayStation2 consoles engraved with the Final Fantasy XII logo and sold as a package with the new software.

Akitoshi Kawazu, executive producer of the game said, “This type of work is similar to an awesome European cathedral.”

Sony, which is trying to protect profits after a recent sprawl, on Wednesday, announced that it would holdup the release of its next-generation PlayStation3, enhancing Microsoft’s already released Xbox 360.
