Software Update for PlayStation 3 released by Sony

Silver Sony PlayStation 3 Sony the makers of PlayStation 3 have announced the latest software update for their recently launched PlayStation 3 gaming console. Soon after the release of PS3 in Japan, it was noticed that the PlayStation 3 was not backward compatible with and did not support PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games.

According to Sony, the PlayStation 3 software update will help to fix any glitches that make some of the older PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games not run properly on PlayStation 3.

In a statement, Kaz Hirai, President and chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America said that as many as 8,000 PlayStation 2 games are now supported on the recently launched PlayStation 3 gaming console. Hirai also added that this newly launched update would fix issues with as many as 200 games.

“We are aiming for perfect compatibility. Our goal is 100 per cent compatibility. We are trying to get there as quickly as possible,” said Kaz Hirai.

In spite of massive delays in the launch and bad publicity in the press, Sony has finally managed to launch their next-generation gaming console, the PlayStation 3.

In a matter of just two days since its launch in Japan, Sony managed to sell as many as 88, 400 units of its PlayStation 3 game console. This means that most stores in Japan are probably running out of stock of PS3 units. On November 17, Sony will launch the PS3 in the U.S. market.

The PlayStation 3 has suffered a few glitches here and there, but has yet managed to remain a sell-out. It has taken on the Microsoft Xbox 360 console and with Nintendo Wii dues to launch tomorrow, the video game console has never looked as hot!
