Starforce officially dumped by Ubisoft
Its official Ubisoft has dumped Starforce, its long-standing partner for copy protection software. Ubisoft announced that it would no longer use the digital-rights software from Starforce.
Ubisoft said that it has made the decision to use an alternative copy-protection system to Starforce for all its upcoming releases. Due to this Starforce software will not be integrated in Heroes of Might and Magic V, the publisher’s much-awaited upcoming role-playing game.
In March, a Starforce employee was accused of posting a link to a site where users could download illegal copies of Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords. Shortly, thereafter, Aspyr Media decided to end its relationship with Starforce and remove its software from its forthcoming game, Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars.
Ubisoft was sued in March for $5 million by gamers who claimed that Starforce’s DRM system compromised the security of their PCs.
Ubisoft said, “We are currently investigating complaints about alleged problems with Starforce’s software.”
