Microsoft Corp. announced that it has signed on to sponsor the World Cyber Games competition through 2008.

With this agreement Microsoft became the premier sponsor of the World Cyber Games 2008, the largest gaming competition.

World Cyber Games provides a worldwide tournament within cyberspace gamers calls “e-sports.” Microsoft will provide its Xbox 360 console for WCG events, along with games and marketing.

Microsoft Windows and the Xbox 360 console will become the exclusive platforms for both PC and console games in the WCG 2008. Microsoft’s sponsorship will also cover three championship events in South Korea, the United States and the WCG Grand Finals in Monza, Italy.

Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft said, “Over the years, we have admired the incredible growth of CyberSports and WCG’s role in expanding the reach of these worldwide tournaments.”

World Cyber Games 2008 national events around the world will begin this month, leading up the WCG 2008 Grand Final on October 18.
