World of Warcraft

A trojan has been discovered in World of Warcraft due to which the names and passwords of the renowned MMORPG game are pinched.

WoW, which also attempts to disable security software packages on compromised PCs, has been fixed on maliciously constructed websites. Vulnerable Windows users visiting these sites can get infected through malicious browser pop-ups. The malware also spreads through infectious email attachments or as files downloaded from P2P networks.

The exact motive behind the attack is yet unknown, however one possibility behind the attack stems from the fact that virtual gold and other booty obtained via compromised accounts can be converted to cash.

Wowcraft is the latest in a series of trojans targeting the World of Warcraft community, some of which also attempt to steal the identities of players of other online games.
