Californian Judge Blocks Anti-Violent Games Law Just A Little Before Its Enactment
A Californian judge has blocked a law that prohibits retailers from flogging violent games to kids. Ironically this law has been blocked just a few days before its enactment.
The new law would have required a large ‘18′ label to be stuck on violent games specifically. However US District Judge Ronald Whyte said that the new law runs foul of free-speech rights. He felt that that there was no valid evidence that proved that violent video games transformed children into little psychos.
The only good news, for anti-violent game protesters, was that the robed but not wigged one decided the law’s definition of a ‘violent video game’ was not unconstitutionally vague. This was one of the main stances of the software industry’s defence against the law.
