Samsung augments its green commitment with more EPEAT Gold registered monitors

Most manufacturers in the technology terrain these days are focusing more on green and eco-conscious gadgets. Well, the latest to reinforce its green commitment in this space is Samsung. The company has announced that its 943BT, 943BWT, 2243BWT & 2443BWT SyncMaster monitors have now been successfully registered as EPEAT Gold.
Utilized by the US federal government and various other purchasing entities, EPEAT helps to identify greener products. It is operated by the Green Electronics Council. With the recently registered EPEAT Gold monitors, Samsung now boasts of the widest range of EPEAT-registered electronic products available.
Around 197 Samsung products which include 153 monitors and 44 notebooks are registered with EPEAT. All Samsung registered products claim to have an EPEAT rating of Silver or higher. With at least 75% of the optional criteria met the 943BT, 943BWT, 2243BWT & 2443BWT monitors qualify for the Gold level.
Mr. J.H. Kim, President, Information Technology Division, Samsung Electronics America Inc, mentioned, “As a company leading innovation, we are sensitive to how our products impact the environment, which is why we are taking the initiative in creating eco-friendly products. Our long-term goal is to have all our monitors and notebooks at the Gold Rating by 2010.”
“In addition to EPEAT, all our monitors are Energy Star qualified and we continue to look for ways to limit the number of harmful components, while increasing recyclable components,” added R.A. Atanus, Vice President of Product Marketing, Information Technology Division, Samsung Electronics America Inc. “Through our Envirosync program, customers can recycle old hardware, regardless of the brand, when they purchase a new Samsung product.”
EPEAT is known to evaluate products on the basis of 51 total environmental criteria. These include 23 required and 28 optional criteria. It is necessary for products to adhere to the 23 required criteria in order to qualify for EPEAT registration. As per the percentage of optional criteria they meet, products are then ranked as Bronze, Silver or Gold. Environmental sensitive materials, packaging, product life and corporate policies are some of the as aspects evaluated. These attributes are including but not limited to.
In addition to this, Samsung also has an Envirosync recycling program. This program enables authorized Samsung dealers to recycle old hardware for businesses who are replacing old products. There’s also Recycling Direct which offers consumers more than 200 fixed drop-off locations across the country along with a host of recycling events.
Users can purchase the Samsung monitors through the company’s resellers and distribution channels.
