A famous French proverb states, “Write injuries in sand, kindnesses in marble” – very true indeed! But writing in itself has become quite a task now thanks to the increasing use of the keyboard. Now with “write” we don’t imply the literature sense, but mean the literal pen-to-paper kind of writing.

However, there’s perhaps some good news for all those who see the faces of their notes more often than probably watching their own faces in the mirror!

Here’s a great gizmo for all students, medical and legal professionals, personal assistants and all individuals who day in and day out have to take down notes. The IOGEAR Mobile Digital Scribe will allow all these individuals to now leave their laptops at home and store handwritten notes and drawings to later upload onto a PC in digital text the new device.

The Mobile Digital Scribe’s pen flows on any paper, as long as it is Letter or A4 size, and makes use of standard ink refills. The hand movements are captured by an ultrasonic transmitter and infrared sensor, while a receiver attached to a notepad stores as many as 50 pages of memos and images. And the best thing is that you can do all this by holding just a normal sized and weighted pen.

No matter where you may have scribbled, the Mobile Digital Scribe safely transfers information to a computer. Once the receiver is connected to a PC with the included USB cable, the handwriting recognition software translates notes into text and saves sketches as JPEGs for users to easily save, edit and organize documents.

Miranda Su, executive vice president of IOGEAR said, “IOGEAR recognizes the need for a cost-effective solution that enables students and professionals to digitally manage information they often hand-write on notepads.” Adding, “Our Mobile Digital Scribe gives users the ability to store and organize important notes without the hassle of toting a laptop wherever they go.”

In addition, to keep important names, phone numbers and memos handy, users can make use of IOGEAR’s Mobile Digital Scribe to tag information in sticky notes on their desktops or set pop-up reminders for certain dates or times. The device’s additional functionality can be unveiled once it is connected to the computer and can serve as a mouse or writing device and select and click on items on the screen.

Supporting 12 languages (including Italian, Swedish, Chinese, and Russian) and Microsoft Windows operating systems Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Office programs 2000 and above, the IOGEAR Mobile Digital Scribe comes with a price tag of $129.95. It is available right away from all major catalog and online resellers, as well as select retail outlets, and comes with the company’s limited one-year warranty.
