Dell's DJ Ditty Music Player Dell Inc. has silently pulled the plug on its DJ Ditty music players, and its only been less than a year since the world’s largest computer maker launched the device to compete with Apple Computer Inc’s iPod Shuffle. Precisely, Dell stopped selling the DJ Ditty music player on August 17, Dell spokesman Venancia Figueroa confirmed.

Figueroa declined to elaborate on the decision, but said that Dell is trying to focus on its core areas of PCs, printers and flat-panel TVs.

Dell’s DJ Ditty music player, like the iPod Shuffle, cost $99 and included 512 MB of memory. However, Dell asserted that its player could hold up to 220 songs- 100 more than the Shuffle, because the Dell device used an audio format that compresses digital music files more efficiently.

The Ditty also included a 1-inch LCD display screen and an FM radio receiver; while the iPod Shuffle lacks both these features.

In a separate story altogether, last week Dell recalled 4.1 million laptop batteries, because they could catch fire.

It seems that Dell had better concentrate on what it is known for best- PCs!
