When the Microsoft Zune music player was just launched, we had reported that it did not seem to be compatible with Microsoft’s soon-to-be released Windows Vista operating system. Well, earlier this week, Microsoft managed to fix at least one of the issues with the Zune music player, now making it compatible with the next-generation Windows Vista OS.

Microsoft has released its second firmware update 1.2 for the Zune music player, and this latest Zune firmware update has managed to provide stability as well as improvements in its performance. According to Microsoft, with this latest update 2.1, the Zune music device is now compatible with the Windows Vista operating system.

The Zune compatibility function with Windows Vista was actually scheduled to be made available to consumers at the same time when Microsoft’s next-generation operating system, Windows Vista was to launch in January, 2007. And, even though Windows Vista has not yet gone on sale commercially for consumers, it has been released for business use since last month.

According to Cesar Menedez, Zune team member, Microsoft is issuing a 22MB update to make Zune compatible with Windows Vista. He also said that the update improves the Zune software installation process, which users reported to have encountered problems with.

When the Zune music device was launched in November this year, it was only compatible with Windows XP and the Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Probably, Microsoft has realized that it had rushed into launching the Zune music device in the market, so that it could be made available to consumers well before the start of the holiday season.
