Four New Digital Cameras, SD40, SD800 IS, SD900 and G7 unveiled by Canon
Canon has introduced four new digital cameras today ahead of Photokina 2006, which is to kick off on September 26, 2006. The latest models encompass a wide variety of the market, from the ultra-compact PowerShot SD40 Digital ELPH on up to the professional-level PowerShot G7.
The wide range of new products on the show floor that is covering everything that has to do with digital imaging makes Photokina 2006 truly uniqueand Canon’s latest launch surely has a lot to flaunt about.
Next up is the 7.1MP PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH. It also incorporates the new DIGIC III processor and features a 3.8x optical zoom and image stabilization. The SD800 IS also includes a 2.5″ LCD screen, 17 shooting modes and the ability to capture VGA video at 30 FPS. The SD800 IS measures 89.5 x 58 x 25.1 mm and weighs 150 grams.
Next on the line is the PowerShot SD900, which features a titanium body, DIGIC III and a 10MP CCD. A 3x optical zoom lens is included as is a 2.5″ high resolution LCD screen and 18 shooting modes. The camera measures 91.2 x 59.6 x 28.2 mm and weighs 165 grams.
Lastly, there’s the new PowerShot G7, which like all of the new cameras announced today features DIGIC III. Like the SD900, it also has a 10MP CCD and a 2.5″ LCD screen. The G7 includes a 6x optical zoom and includes a lens shift-type image stabilization system. The G7 is the beast of the group weighing in at 320 grams and measuring 106.4 x 71.9 x 42.5 mm.
The SD40, SD800 IS, SD900 and G7 will be available in October at a price of $349.99, $399.99, $499.99 and $599.99 respectively.
