K-PEX Personal Media Players debuted by Kingston

Kingston K-PEX Kingston Technology Company, has unveiled its latest array of Personal Media Players - the K-PEX (Kingston Personal Entertainment eXperience). The K-PEX enables users to perform a series of activities such as watching videos, listening to music, playing video games and storing/viewing photographs. Presently it is available in North America, Latin America and the Asia/Pacific Rim.

The K-PEX will be available with built-in memory capacities of 1 GB and 2 GB and will offer a miniSD slot for downloads of music, video and photographs directly onto the memory card.

The players will be available with a complete kit that include a USB 2.0 cable, USB host cable, line-in cable, earphones, transcoder software CD, protective cover, lanyard, comprehensive user manual, and quick start guide.

“K-PEX allows us to leverage our reputation in the memory business while maximizing established relationships with NAND suppliers which ultimately results in a high quality, multi-functional multimedia player for consumers,” said Jean Wong, Flash product manager, Kingston. “By adding an expandable card slot to the K-PEX, we offer today’s consumer a high quality product with the flexibility to expand media libraries at an affordable price.”

The K-PEX offers features including a multi-region FM radio and a high resolution, 2-inch color LCD video screen. It measures 3.7 x 1.8 x .57-inches, weighs 2.2 ounces and can playback formats including MP3, WMA, OGG and WAV audio; MPEG 1&2, AVI, WMV and ASF video, JPEG image formats, and TXT documents.

As a special promotion, Kingston will ship the first 4,000 2 GB players packed with a free Kingston miniSD card and will have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of US$129.99 (1 GB) and US$179.99 (2 GB).
