BenQ intros BW1000, the First Blu-Ray PC Recorder
Taiwan-based industry leader in digital lifestyle devices BenQ has announced plans to launch a Blu-ray Disc recorder for PCs by end of August, for an estimated price of 799 euros. The projected cost is far less than recorders coming from Blu-ray inventors Sony and Pioneer, which are aiming for $1,500 and higher price points.
If BenQ launches its product as per the stated deadline, then it will be one of the first companies to deliver a Blu-ray drive. At present Samsung has the only Blu-ray player on the market in the United States, as both Sony and Pioneer have run into production delays. The BW1000, also called the Trio, is able to write to Blu-ray, DVD, and CD formats, and incorporates various technologies, including Precision Tilt Control System, SolidBurn, and Write Right, to record on to the discs.
The Precision Tilt Control System is an extra level of protection against vibration, noisy signals, and disc irregularities, while SolidBurn optimises the writing settings for each disc.
On the outside of the device are three LED indicators to show which type of disc is being burned.
Among those who will deliver Blu-Ray drives this autumn are Pioneer, Plextor and Philips.
