Samsung logo Samsung said it has designed a seven inch TFT LCD which makes use of thin pliable plastic to display 640×480 resolution colour video.

The firm confirmed that as compared to glass LCD panels, the TFT LCD panel is thinner, lighter and longer lasting. The panel will maintain a constant thickness even when it is bent. However it doesn’t say how many times you need to bend it to keep it that thickness.

The firm claimed it will be used for notebook computers, cell phones and you will even be able to weave it into your clothes, if you have them bent.

It claims that it has beaten several problems involving the substrate’s heat sensitivity, which it overcame by using a low temp processing technique to make the amorphous thin film transistors (TFT), colour filters and liquid crystals much lower than glass based amorphous silicon.

However Samsung has not yet revealed as to when we will be able to see applications using the plastic LCD screens
