Kingston DT400

Sometime back Kingston Technology, rolled out the DataTraveler 400 (DT400) Multifunctional USB Flash Drive in the Indian market. If you were toying with the idea of buying it, then here’s a comprehensive review on the product, which may just ease the task a little.

The DT400 comes in storage capacities of upto 8GB, offering 20MB/sec read and 10MB/sec write speeds. By far, the DT400 has the distinction of being the fastest USB flash drive that Kingston is offering, along with several other features. Sporting an attractive capless design, the drive includes key features such as Windows ReadyBoost and is preloaded with the MigoSync Software.

If you’re wondering as to what exactly the MigoSync Software is, here you go.

With this handy software we could easily synchronize our files, email and internet browser settings with the DT400 drive, enabling us to quickly back up to the speed when we are busy shuffling between work and home. With the SecureTraveler software we can password protect the drive, thus keeping all peeking toms away from the stored data. In addition, the drive’s “Privacy Zone” allowed us to create and access a password protected secure area. The MigoSync Operating Language offers support in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian, Thai, Portuguese and Dutch, which makes it quite flexible indeed.

Here are a few facts and specs that the Kingston DT400 incorporates:

  • Capacities – 2GB, 4GB, 8GB
  • Dimensions – 2.57” x 0.71” x 0.41” (65.4mm x 18.0mm x 10.4mm)
  • Fast – data transfer rates of up to 20MB/sec. read and 10MB/sec. write
  • Operating Temperature – 32° to 140° F (0° to 60° C)
  • Storage Temperature – -4° to 185° F (-20° to 85° C)
  • Guaranteed – five-year warranty
  • MigoSync Supported Email Clients: Microsoft Outlook Express (5.0 and 6.0), Outlook 2000 (and above) with POP3/SMTP and Exchange Server6, Windows Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird (1.5 and 2.0), Lotus Notes (6.5 and 7.0 with POP3/SMTP and Domino6)
  • MigoSync Supported Internet Browsers: Internet Explorer (5.0 – 7.0) and Mozilla Firefox (1.5 and 2.0)
  • Honestly, the best thing about the Kingston DT400 is its ability to let you work with multiple PCs. The only con, which perhaps may not be a “con” for some would be the capless design. The DT400 is not a waterproof drive, thus it stands at a high risk incase it falls into water. Dust is also an issue.

But in all this chic looking drive would be a good buy. For a fact, Kingston products are usually a little on the steeper side, and the DT400 is no different. The 2GB drive comes in at Rs.2255, while the 4GB and 8GB ones are priced at Rs.3665 and Rs.7995 respectively.

    Review points

We give the Kingston DT400 USB flash drive 9 out of 10, for its chic look, exceptional emphasis on data protection and data transfer speeds.
