Dogfights Gaming Night

History Channel and Maxim have come together to organize a three-city gaming extravaganza called Dogfights Gaming Night. TechShout covered the Mumbai leg of this event on March 30, 2008 which turned into a serious adrenaline-pumped night.

Dogfights is a popular series on The History Channel which recreates famous battles using state-of-the-art computer graphics. During the First World War, ‘Dog fighting’ as it has since come to be known, could be described as a violent mid-air battle.

A perfect way to promote the series in India brought The History Channel together with apt sponsors like Maxim, Vodafone and other associate partners such as Electronic Arts, ibibo and Samsung.

The Mumbai leg of Dog Fights Gaming Nights took place at All Sports Bar which was transformed into a gaming arena and by early evening the place was swarming with gamers who got to play killer Electronic Arts games. Crysis and Medal of Honor Airborne were being promoted as they perfectly matched the theme of the night. The less intense gamers were not left out as there were PC games like NFS Pro Street and FIFA 08. Speed freaks got a good racing experience with the ultra-realistic NFS Carbon on the PS3.

However, the main reason why most gathered was to literally participate, watch and cheer on the contenders of the Dogfight in which gamers battled it out on a huge four player split screen playing Resistance: Fall of Man. After a few eliminations on the basis of scores, the competition then narrowed down the 16 players to the semi-finals. And, then it was down to the final four who played their very best to compete for the grand prize- a 32-inch Philips LCD TV!

The competition was tough, the mood intense and highly charged. The first place was bagged by Vikram Subrimaninayan, who was followed closely by the persistent Gautam. Karan Doshi emerged as the second runners-up after putting up a strong defense and playing an equally resilient game.

Karan Tandon of the History Channel Marketing Team presented all three winners with History Channel merchandise, while the lucky Vikram took home the 32-inch TV, perfect to augment his passion for gaming.

The next leg of Dogfights Night is scheduled to take place in Delhi on April 4 at Café Morrison from 6pm onwards.
